Get Health Insurance Help

About

About this guide

Get Health Insurance Help is a small, independent set of plain-language pathways to getting health coverage in the United States, organised by life situation.

Who it is for

The pathways are for people in the United States who are facing a change that affects their health coverage, such as a job ending, a 26th or 65th birthday, a new job, a drop in income or a move to self-employment, and who want to understand their options before they talk to the official sources. No previous knowledge is assumed.

What this site is not

The domain name includes the word "help". To be clear about what that does and does not mean:

  • It is not a broker, agent or insurer, and it does not sell or recommend any plan or company.
  • It is not a government site, and it is not affiliated with HealthCare.gov, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP or any government agency.
  • It offers no enrollment, quotes, eligibility checks, forms, calls or personal advice.
  • It carries no advertising, affiliate links or sponsored content, and earns nothing from anyone's choice of coverage.
  • It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.

The help it offers is explanation. Everything here is general information, not insurance, legal, tax or medical advice.

Where the official help is

For a decision about your own coverage, these official sources are free. They are named here, not linked; search for them by name.

  • HealthCare.gov. The federal Health Insurance Marketplace, or the state Marketplace it directs you to. It lists local Navigators and other trained helpers who assist with applications at no cost.
  • Your state Medicaid agency. Decides Medicaid and CHIP applications for your state. Medicaid.gov and InsureKidsNow.gov list each state program.
  • Medicare.gov. The official Medicare site. It also lists your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), which offers free, unbiased Medicare counselling.
  • US Department of Labor. Its Employee Benefits Security Administration explains COBRA and job-based plan rights, and answers questions about them.

How it was made

The site was planned and drafted with the help of an AI system, working from documents published by HealthCare.gov, Medicaid.gov, InsureKidsNow.gov, Medicare.gov, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the US Department of Labor. Each pathway names the documents it relies on and paraphrases them. On 2026-10-22 each cited document was confirmed to be online; a line-by-line comparison of every sentence against the current text of those documents has not been done yet.

The pathways have not yet been reviewed by an independent human editor. Until they have, read them as a careful starting point and confirm anything important with the official sources, which are the authority.

The illustrations and the logo were drawn for this site as simple vector graphics. They are diagrams, not photographs, and do not show real people or places. Worked examples in the pathways are invented and describe no real person.

Contact

There is no contact route yet: no form, email address or phone number. If one is added later, it will be listed on this page. It would not be a route to personal advice or enrollment; the official sources above provide those. The editorial policy explains how errors are handled in the meantime.
